April 16th 2020 Covid 19 Update

1 new case of Covid today things keep looking pretty good for flattening the curve!

As many of you know Cupe59 members have been cleaning our buses, well that’s great but some of our members have been getting less work hours than the Cupe59 members causing hardship to our own members we are currently working on an MOA with the City and Cupe59 to ensure our members get the work first including first choice of work area and first to get OT, we need to look out for our members first but welcome the work the Cupe59 members are doing, we’re hoping to get that wrapped up by next week.

We had very few updates from the employer yesterday, so we brought up our concerns of joy riders and people causing issues in the terminals to Jeff Jorgensen and he committed to look at hiring some temporary relief supervisors to help have more of a presence in the terminals and on the buses, and assist with these joy riders, I’ll be following up with transit management tomorrow.

We had a discussion with Marno regarding voluntary lay-offs, he provided a document that we are having our legal review and we could potentially have more info mid next week.

We spoke to the group that has been donating masks to us and we picked up another 3000 masks we’ll be getting those out early next week, when picking them up they told us the masks should last an 8 hour shift or two so let’s try to stretch them out if we can, they have also committed to donating us another 4500 masks in the upcoming weeks! They wanted to send a thank you to everyone at Atu Local 615 for all of our hard work in these scary times!

It’s amazing how our community is coming together and supporting each other and how us as ATU members are supporting each other!!
