ATU615 Meeting With Member of Parliament

Today, we had the opportunity to meet with Member of Parliament Brad Redekopp to discuss key issues affecting our membership.
The meeting focused on the escalating mental health and addictions crisis, which is contributing to increased violence on our transit system, targeting both bus operators and the riding public.
We emphasized the need for enhanced accountability and stronger penalties for individuals involved in violent acts against transit personnel or passengers. Additionally, we explored strategies to maintain order on our transit system.
The discussion also touched on the evolution of the bus industry, specifically the transition towards alternative propulsion methods. We examined the potential of electric buses and other alternatives, as well as the role of federal funding in supporting the adoption of sustainable technologies and safety initiatives.
We appreciate MP Redekopp's willingness to engage in open and constructive dialogue. We look forward to continuing our collaboration to address the concerns of our members and promote positive change.
