Police arrested a man who was allegedly concealing a knife in his pants on a Saskatoon Transit bus on Wednesday morning.
According to police, officers were called to Preston Avenue South and Wilson Crescent at around 11:30 a.m. after getting a call reporting a man armed with a knife on a city bus.
“The suspect was located by police on the bus and upon being taken into custody, was found to be concealing a knife in his pants,” the Saskatoon Police Service said in a statement.
“The 38-year-old man is charged with Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, Unauthorized Possession of Weapon, and breach of court-imposed conditions.”
Police said three people were arrested on Wednesday morning after an officer spotted a “suspicious vehicle” in Willian A. Reid Park, in the city’s Fairhaven neighbourhood.
The officer performed a traffic stop, police said, and the three occupants “were found to be in possession of two sawed-off rifles, a CO2 pistol, 8.55 grams of carfentanil, 6.88 grams of methamphetamine, 5.56 grams of cocaine and drug paraphernalia.”
Police said the three people – a 37-year-old man, a 32-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman – are now facing a list of charges related to firearms and drugs.
“Each of the three were also found to be in breach of court conditions,” the police force added.
A man and woman are facing charges after a weapons call led to a traffic stop on Wednesday night.
According to police, a resident on St. Charles Avenue reported seeing “unknown persons approaching their home trying to locate a cell phone,” and said one member of the group was carrying a machete.
“While en route officers learned the suspects left the area in a taxi. A traffic stop of the taxi was then conducted in the 600 block of Taylor Street East,” the police force said in a statement.
“Two male and one female passenger exited the vehicle. A 32 year old man was found to be in possession of a machete and an expandable baton. The female was found to be in possession of a loaded, sawed-off rifle and crystal methamphetamine.”
Police said the man is facing charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and carrying a concealed weapon, while the woman is facing seven gun-related charges and one charge of possession of methamphetamine. The woman was set to appear in court on Thursday, police said, while the man was released from custody ahead of a later court date.
The third passenger was released without charges, police said.
